BlogEngine.net and VistaDB

written by Jason Short on Friday, May 23 2008

I just wanted to take a moment to point out the fantastic work of Al Nyveldt on his BlogEngine.net with VistaDB work.

Al is working on an implementation for BlogEngine.net that uses VistaDB under the hood (similar to how Graffiti does today).

XCopy Deployment

The benefits of an XCopy deployable database are especially important to users who want an easy way to build, and then deploy their blogs.

Shared hosting is especially tough for most dot net developers since SQL CE cannot be used with asp.net, SQL Express is not free, and SQL Server is usually a very high monthly fee.  VistaDB makes a nice alternative in this situation.

BlogEngine.net and VistaDB Express?

BlogEngine.net is a great blogging engine with a huge base of support from around the world.  VistaDB Express is useable within BlogEngine.net as long as the rest of the license requirements are met (not for commercial use).

So take a look at Al's code and be sure to give him some feedback.
